Lies, lies and more damn lies

I was there when it all started. And this is how it happen:
Me, Huda, ordered a vodka tonic, with a splash of lychee liquor. It was so good, that Yasser did the same, except with a gin and tonic. It was delicious, but to Yasser’s immature and obtuse tastes, he didn’t care for it. He agreed to call it the Shanghai Huda. Then, up goes the website, and the rest is history. The real meaning of the Shanghai Mufti is that the drink has been Shanghai’d from me! Any other correspondence will be thru my cadre of lawyers. Yasser Mufti, you’ve been served!

    reliving SM!

as we all know, Yin closed nearly four months ago so not until you ask your bartender for it, no chance to enjoy shanghai mufti. luckily in Kuluska, i was able to make my own bar menu and of course Shanghai Mufti is in the list..so time to freshen up in SM’s new abode.

    I miss Diana

Not having Diana at Yin to pour my Mufti really sucks. Diana, come back!

    stumbling on enlightenment

Well, I just found this site, don’t me ask how. Having met Yasser on only 1 (albeit notable) occasion, drinking something quite ordinary, the mythic prospect of the S.M. gives me something more proper to look forward to. I have to say, you guys are an indefatigible family.

    Thanks for the Dita!

My folks just returned from China. And I got Dita!

    Life is fine again.

Kyle, will you bring me back another bottle? One of mine was broken in transit.

    Mr Mazoula from Angola

Well I had heard so much about these that I couldn’t help but have my first taste in the Restaurant that witnessed the creation of this beverage…. very fine indeed…

No tonic? You can still enjoy a mufti!

I got out my gin and Dita tonight, squeezed a lemon into a glass, added ice, and then opened the fridge only to find I had no tonic. I had some Coke so I used that instead. Not bad!

    A Mufti with the Mufti

Last night, my friend Edward and I met Yasser at Yin and tossed back a few Mufti’s over dinner. Diana was pouring. It was the truest of Mufti experiences.

    Site has been down

The site has been down for over a week. Sorry to all.

I just finished moving the site off of my PC at home and on to a hosted web site, so it should be more available now, and also much faster from North America.

    One more thing

I forgot to mention my Mufti was experienced at Yin’s and Diana (inventor of the Shanghai Mufti – http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronmart/439572413/) was the one who took our picture.

    I’ve experienced the Mufti

See for yourself – http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronmart/439569290/ – is proof that I have had the infamous Shanghai Mufti with Kyle and Marti. It was a delicious drink that had no hint of alcohol until I was done drinking it.

    Substitute for Dita

Dita can be difficult to find. To date, I know of nobody in the US that has found it. It flows like water in Shanghai.

Now, the Shanghai Mufti is definitely good enough to warrant regular trips to China to buy Dita, but if you’re a wimp, you can substitute any lychee liquer. I believe Soho makes one that is more available in the US.

    Minnesota Muftis!

I have been introducing the Mufti to my friends here in Minnesota. Everyone has loved it, and has asked for (at least) one more. I have one problem: No Dita! I cannot get it here.

Kyle, next time you return home, I need at least 3 bottles. I have about only 3 ounces left, and they are all mine…

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to dita?

PS: A blood orange garnish looks outstanding, and tastes great.

    Introducing people to the mufti

Tonight I brought a colleague from the US out to Yin and introduced him to the Shanghai Mufti. I’ve done this many times and each time I do, I get this wonderful feeling of fulfillment for having shared the pleasure of the Shanghai Mufti with someone new.

I’m always particilarly pleased when they order a second round – and he did tonight.
